Kirby knows there’s been lots of sad news since yesterday. But he wants to assure you there are treats and bellyrubs on the horizon.

He’s still a handful, but Kirby has become far less a Hellbeast in the evening hours. The last few weeks with him have been a lot of fun. He’s a sweet (not so little anymore) puppy.

It’s been a rough day here in Brooklyn. Kirby would like to brighten your mood.

Paw is healed, Cone Of Shame is removed. And check out those gorgeous blonde eyelashes!

Over the weekend, Kirby was not himself, and developed a swollen back paw that began to bleed. Our veterinarian cleaned the wound and prescribed an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory. Kirby’s mood improved dramatically, especially after being carried up and down the stairs, and getting extra treats and lots of attention. But he hates that cone with a passion.

On the left is Kirby at 2 months, the day after we brought him home. At right, Kirby on his 6 month birthday.
We sure got ourselves one adorable puppy. Kirby is a lovable ball of fur. And the HellBeast only emerges for an hour or so each day, usually mid-evening.
His health is great, his potty training is back on track, all his vaccinations will be complete in another week, and we love the little guy. How could you not?

Kirby is fine. Even after swallowing a latex glove that a neighbor dropped on the sidewalk in front of him. Kirby’s a regular canine garbage disposal unit. In the past, we’ve pulled rocks, cigarette butts, tissues, screws, and pieces of plastic out of his mouth. This meal turned out to be a bit pricier, but our pet insurance should cover it. Most certainly the first of such late night trips to the vet, knowing this little rascal.

Well someone really likes snow!
We got about four inches of the white stuff here in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn this morning, and Kirby is having the time of his life.
Hope you are having a good day wherever you are — with or without snow. Or puppies.

Two months with a puppy (he’ll be four months old on Monday) seems a lot longer. Much of that is sleep deprivation, but there you go.
We love the little guy. Even if he’s not so little anymore.
The biting? No so much. But he’s still a baby. And he’s teething.

This was Kirby when we first met him, at 5 weeks old. He’s tripled in size since then, and we’re delighted he was our early Christmas present. Hoping your holidays are equally fun, but with considerably less rambunctiousness. And fewer pieces of furniture chewed on.

Kirby is 14 weeks today, and nearly 30 lbs. No bathroom incidents in over a week, and he’s sleeping through the night without trips outside.

And what a month it’s been!
Kirby, our Golden Retriever puppy is now tipping the scales at 24 lbs. He’s 87% absolutely adorable, 13% total terror. Or do I have those percentages backwards?
Anyway, we love the little guy, and are counting the days (T-minus 21!) until he gets his final shots and can start frolicking with other doggies. He’ll be three months old this Saturday, and those paws suggest he’s going to be a big dog. What could possibly go wrong?

Kirby’s first trip to the vet (with us) went well. They seem to adore him and lab results from his (ahem) output were all negative for parasites and other nasty stuff. He’s a good little dog who won’t be so little for long, so I’m determined to take a lot more photos of him when he’s still a baby. Speaking of which, this is the first shot that comes close to capturing just how cute he really is. We definitely lucked out with this puppy.
